Kinja'd!!!

My wife is in for surgery today for the intestinal injury she suffered in August. Procedure will be 6-8 hours with 4-8 days in the hospital. I’ve got time today, so AMA. We can talk planes, commercial aviation, jobs, adulting and cars. Whatever.

I’m entertaining myself with an iPad full of media and there is a nationally known Egyptian museum about 1/4 mile away that I will likely walk over to.

Is it just me or are Airbuses much nicer to ride on than Boeings?

So I am trying to cut my carbs while getting back to working out. I am looking at the Keto diet, however...I then discovered there is something called Fathead Dough which is cheese and almond flour made into a dough. It is like 4g of carbs for a pizza. So instead of going crazy with no carbs, should lean towards just cutting carbs down to 1/3 and just run/bike/pushups more?

Ex-Army, so I can work out...just working behind a desk and full time student hurts the body.

I would think they would pick more flowery flowers to hang over a patient’s bed.

Best of luck to your wife. It can’t be fun to have someone rummaging around in your innards. I wonder if this is what cars feel like when we pop the hood and start working on their engines.

I’ve heard about that dough. Let me know how it is. Is life without pizza really worth living?

I’m not a fan of fad diets. We all kind of know the proper path to good nutrition. Most folks are looking for a quicker answer. Just my $0.02.

Nice thing about cars is that new parts are generally available. Tougher with folks. I do wonder if the the doc will swear like I do working on the car.

Do you mean smoothness or just general passenger comfort?  Airbus puts more effort into damping turbulence than Boeing. Otherwise, I think it has more to do with the way the cabin is set up and maintained.

The Airbus seemed smoother, more quiet, and had less vibrations. Maybe it was just not being on Southwest for th e f irst time in a while, but it was nice.

“I do wonder if the the doc will swear like I do working on the car.”

I find that swearing usually follows  busting my knuckles or making a BIG mistake. Let’s hope there’s no swearing during your wife’s surgery.

Is Boeing ever going to get off its ass and build the NMA? And if so, how will it be configured?

Best wishes for your family.

I agree, I know I won’t stick to a diet that eliminates all the fun foods, but what if it makes it healthier in the long term by changing 1-2 things?
So I am going to try whipping some up this weekend and see. I am a decent cook, but working a 10 hour day behind a desk then going and sitting in class has lead to poor eating choices and not as much gym time as I like.

The 737 is a workhorse, but it is still a 196 0s design. It has also been stretched to the max. So much so that Boeing called the latest one the Max. The Busses are newer designs and wingloading and the flight control systems are set up to smooth the ride. I like riding on the newer Airbus’ myself.

That said, nothing beats the 747.

It’s in work. We are one of the carriers they are using to set specs. Sadly, I think it’s just going to be a refined single isle. They aren’t sure on composite or metal yet, but I’m betting composite. I’d love to see a short twin isle. Toss in some blended wing for good measure.

Thanks!

Just got back into a workout routine again. I’m not too concerned with being cut, just being strong, so YYMV. However, for high intensity, quick workouts, pick  up a 35 lb or so kettlebell. There’s a plethora of workouts for both upper and lower body. There’s a lot of movement involved as well, so you get a bit of cardio with each routine.

I would hate to be the one who has to make the final decision. It’s one hell of an expensive roll of the dice.

You ha e to bold at some point to make substantial gains over what we have today. The LEAP and GTF engines are good steps, but the airframes need to come along as well.

Right, I just need the motivation and time. After being outta the house for most of the day. Getting in a workout doesn’t always happen. I get home and just powerdown. I have time to eat something, chase the cat, finish homework and then crash out.
So hoping the diet change will give me a tad more energy to tackle my day.
I am not worried about getting my abs back. My days of chasing people across continents is pretty well done. I am a mentor now...eh...

Best wishes. At least she gets to sleep through it, right? Walking is a great idea. Give the clerk your mobile number in case they need you and get out of the waiting room- those are miserable places where time crawls by.

What do you think the X-37B is doing up there? Shooting down UFOs? Delivering take-out to our secret space station? Defending democracy against  Airbus contracts?

I hear you. I got myself back in to a routine through short workouts. 30-45 minutes of just cycling reps between a few muscle groups. I’ll also cycle in projects between reps in order to break up the monotony (motorcycle maintenance/house cleaning/yard work). Also, no vanity muscles other than biceps. Shoulder, chest, quads/hammies and back. If I don’t get my routine in before I work I’m toast, as I have no motivation at the end of the day.

Assuming you don’t have any kidney issues, try cycling in some creatine (5g/day before your workout). It might fuck you up the first few weeks (possible intense muscle cramps) , but will help with recovery while you’re getting reps in. After the cycling period your gtg as long as you stay hydrated.

Huge morale   booster as you’ll see improvements in both rep count and weight load immediately. I’m skeptical of almost all supplements, but I do have a physiology degree, and based on my knowledge and research, protein, creatine and anabolic steroids are really the only supplements that have been shown to have real returns (with steroids also giving you cancer and fucking with your manhood).

Godspeed.

Thanks. I will likely get back to my routes. I will walk around the lake or by the bay. I stop every few meters to do a circuit exercise with a resistant band then either run, walk or lunge to my next location. Gets me out, gets me moving and forces me to finish as I can’t just stop if I am 1/2 a mile from home.

My guess is signals intelligence. They can put the latest hardware in the back. When it is no longer the latest they can bring it back and reload it with newer stuff.

Or, it is up there launching small micro sats that will be positioned near critical assets for states that we view as threats. Instant demobilization when needed.

She has a hole in her instine caused by  a fall last summer. The soft tried letting it heal itself, but the drain they put in is now stuck. The solution is to go in, cut out a chunk and splice the ends together. Good times.

I just found a Seattle-Dublin flight for a buddy yesterday. BA 747 to Heathrow, AA 787 on the way back. $50 each way (ends up $350 return thanks to $250 in taxes). It can be done on the cheap if you keep your eyes peeled.

Do you know anything about sarms? Don’t really want to dive into taking test or other steroids, and a few guys at my gym told me to look into sarms. Not sure I wanna try those either, but I know nothing about them. Having a little plateau at the gym and looking to push through it.

I had to look them up. They’re experimental drugs that are being tested as an anabolic steroid replacement for endocrine disorders and injuries . Looks like Ligandro l is the brand name. They’re on the market as supplements as they don’t have FDA approval. If they get it, you’ll probably end up needing a prescription.

If your averse to using steroids, I’d stay away from these as well. You at least know all the risks with anabolic steroids.

I’d consult with a physician for something that heavy duty.
